Motivation Monday: thoughts matter

For a long time, I was one of those people who said, “it’s just stress” and dismissed it without any regard. I make a conscious effort to focus on learning about diet and nutrition, exercise science, and disease prevention, but for a long time, I only focused on my physical body. I hadn’t yet realized that my thoughts matter. 

Here are the mantras that used to circle my brain. Do any sound familiar?

Thoughts matter

Everything in the world is energy. If you’re putting out negativity, then you’ll quickly learn that “you reap what you sow” isn’t just something your mom used to say (or maybe that’s just my mom who is cliche addicted).
If you’re always thinking thoughts like:
  • I hate money and it’s not important to me
  • I will never finish my book
  • It’s impossible to lose weight
  • Good things only happen to other people
  • I will fail anyway, so what’s the point in trying?

Then all you’re going to get back from the universe is negativity. Thoughts matter! If your self-talk is defeatist, you will have to overcome internal and external hurdles, which makes achieving your goals even more challenging.

Pay as much attention to your mental health as your physical health and you’ll be amazed at the results. Starting a meditation practice is only 10 minutes a day. If you do it consistently for 8 weeks, that’s when you’ll find the good stuff.

I’m a better writer (and human being) when everything in my life is balanced. It’s not “just stress” my friends and thoughts matter. Stress and negativity are hurting your longevity, making you sick (even if it hasn’t manifested yet), and learning to navigate “monkey brain” will make you happier, healthier and more productive.

  1. I try to brain dump as soon as I can whenever I started feeling stressed, anxious, or overwhelmed. Sometimes, I hand write, type, or talk it out with my husband. I ALWAYS feel better afterward!

    1. I have started writing in a journal and I realized how out of practice I am. My hand cramps and aches after writing a single page, LOL.

      I can remember in grade school when we had to copy entire pages from the projector one after the other because the school wouldn’t pay for photocopies… I would never be able to do that now!

      And now that I think about it, what a terrible use of time, lol.

      1. I love the idea of journaling, but I can never seem to commit to it! I’m with you on the hand cramps, though. Ouch!

        We did that in school, too. Ridiculous!
