To welcome Buster’s foster brother, Frank, to our home, I made healthy, frozen dog treats. I’ve baked cookies for Buster in the past, but with the warmer weather (finally!) arriving, I opted to make a cool and sweet treat for the boys.
For this recipe, I used my paw print molds simply because I think they make adorable cookies. However, if you’re not fussed about the cuteness factor or feeling particularly Pinterest-y, you can just use plain old ice cube trays.

Buster is a family member and we believe in giving him (and now his honourary brother) human grade food. James and I both taste tested this recipe, which you can do safely because there are no weird ingredients. I’m pleased to say that Buster and Frank couldn’t get enough and as far as dogs go, Buster is actually rather picky, so this was a win.
Quick facts
Bananas are a heart-healthy treat that have benefits for both humans and dogs. However, they do have sugar and the riper the banana, the sweeter it gets, so I advise giving them to Fido as a treat and not as a diet staple. You can read more about bananas in my bakery style banana bread donut recipe.
Cinnamon can help regulate blood sugar in dogs, improve brain function, keep kibble fresher for longer and even improve the smell of doggy breath.
Peanut butter is hilarious to put in a dog’s mouth and it keeps them busy for hours if you freeze it inside a Kong. In addition to the fun factor, it’s also a good source of protein and heart-healthy fats. I always opt for organic, unsalted and raw peanut butter.
Lactose-free yogurt is a regular addition to Buster’s food. Many dogs are lactose intolerant and anyone who owns a boxer knows that they don’t need any help being gassy. Opt for the lactose-free variety to give your canine pal a boost of calcium and probiotics without clearing the room.
Applesauce is a great treat for you dog provided it’s unsweetened. It’s a source of dietary fiber and can help to hydrate a doggy who isn’t feeling well.
Now let’s give our dogs some cookies! What is your dog’s favourite treat? Have you ever had a foster dog?
Easy, 6 Ingredient Frozen Dog Treats
Easy, healthy frozen dog treats with only 6 ingredients. Just mix everything together, pour the mixture in ice cube trays, freeze and serve!
The quantity of treats this recipe makes will depend on the mold that you use. I was able to make 64 treats using my paw print molds.
Ingredients
- 2 ripe bananas, mashed
- 1 cup of plain lactose free yogurt
- 3/4 cup of peanut butter, melted
- 1/4 cup of applesauce
- 1 tablespoon of honey
- 1/2 teaspoon of cinnamon
Directions
- Mash the bananas in a large bowl
- Stir in the yogurt, melted peanut butter, applesauce, honey and cinnamon
and whisk until well combined - Spoon the mixture into the ice cube trays or paw print molds. Pro tip: for less mess, use a measuring cup, reusable piping bag, disposable piping bag, or even a plain old Ziploc bag with the corner cut off
- Place the ice cube trays or paw print molds in the freezer overnight (or for at least 4 to 6 hours) and serve. You can keep the treats frozen and dole them out to your dog(s) as you deem necessary!
