I’m not a Beachbody coach and won’t be trying to sell you anything. However, the workouts are amazing, so I’m happy to complete them alone in my living room (also check out my Jillian Michaels and free YouTube recommendations). Since I’ve done almost every Beachbody program, I’m going to share my thoughts on the blog, starting with a Focus T25 Alpha review.
Weight loss tips
Health and fitness are important parts of my life and I’m often asked for my best weight loss tips. When my dad got sick, I spent a lot of late nights at the hospital, which meant skipping the gym and eating food that was convenient (read: processed and unhealthy).
After losing him and reprioritizing my life, I’m back on track and have a lifestyle that is active, healthy, and (according to my friends) inspiring. My goals are no longer superficial and good health is my focus.
Instead of reading “10 tips for a summer body” in Cosmo, I read books like Don’t Sweat the Small Stuff, Why Zebras Don’t Get Ulcers, Big Magic, The Subtle Art of Not Giving a F*ck, How Not to Die and The China Study to continue learning and stay motivated.

Green detox smoothie
Many of us overindulged over the holiday season and perhaps skipped some of our workouts. Three months after Christmas and perhaps you’re still trying to implement healthy habits to shed the weight you gained. I’ve been drinking this green detox smoothie on repeat since January. It tastes like a pina colada and I hope you love it as much as I do! Continue reading “Green detox smoothie”
Best booty workout
I saw the hashtag #beatwritersbutt on Instagram and I couldn’t resist participating. Writers spend a lot of time sitting on their butts, so how do we combat the dreaded writers’ butt? Well, with the best booty workout of course! I previously shared my favourite YouTube channels for free workouts and the best Jillian Michaels DVDs (many are lower body focused), but today we’ll dive a bit deeper. Don’t wait to start
It can tempting to put things off until tomorrow (or some other arbitrary date in the future that will probably never happen) when you have x, y or z. You’ll take more pictures with your family when you lose weight, you’ll write your book when inspiration strikes, you’ll eat better when you have more time, you’ll go on a date with your spouse when your kids grow up…The list of excuses is endless and my best advice is: don’t wait to start. For further reinforcement, you can read my past Motivation Monday post entitled “start now” (are you noticing a theme here?).
Benefits of Himalayan salt lamps
I’m always researching the latest health and wellness information. It’s a good thing James is patient to a fault because I’m always bringing home random things, creating new recipes, and reading the latest books while I regal him with the exciting ways we’ll improve our lives this week (and many of these ideas make their way into my books). The benefits of Himalayan salt lamps recently came to my attention. Of course, I added one to my Christmas list of dream gifts and my mom delivered.
Motivation Monday: thoughts matter
For a long time, I was one of those people who said, “it’s just stress” and dismissed it without any regard. I make a conscious effort to focus on learning about diet and nutrition, exercise science, and disease prevention, but for a long time, I only focused on my physical body. I hadn’t yet realized that my thoughts matter. Continue reading “Motivation Monday: thoughts matter”
Thai quinoa salad
For a delicious meatless Monday option, try my easy and simple Thai quinoa salad that is vegetarian, vegan, gluten free, dairy free and soy free (the same as these donuts, which were my most popular recipe of 2017).
I like to make this salad and then eat it for lunch all week because I don’t mind eating the same healthy thing for days on end (goes well with my natural inclination towards kitchen laziness and hatred of dishes). Continue reading “Thai quinoa salad”
How to beat the holiday blues
The holiday season can be a magical time filled with experiences that create lasting memories. However, it can also be a time filled with unnecessary stress due to the number of demands on our time, loneliness, and the gloomy weather (depending on where you reside). Read on to learn how to beat the holiday blues! Continue reading “How to beat the holiday blues”
Hearty chicken and rice soup
It’s so easy to heat up soup from a can, especially if you or someone in your household is under the weather. However, there is nothing like homemade hearty chicken and rice soup (plus there’s a lot less sodium). If you make a big batch and freeze it in portions (meal prep 101), then it’s basically the same thing as reaching for a can. In my recipe down below, I give you my secret to great tasting soup that won’t disappoint! Continue reading “Hearty chicken and rice soup”
