It’s no secret that I have a sweet tooth. One of my favourite splurges is birthday cake timbits (donut holes for my American friends), but they are packed with sugar. I decided to make a healthier version and thus birthday cake protein balls were born. This recipe is the first in my Sweet Treat series to celebrate the release of my debut adult contemporary romance, Sweet Redemption. See what I did there? Sweet.

I love using nut butter in my healthy desserts (see my oatmeal protein ball, cookie dough protein ball, and healthy chocolate chip cookie recipes for proof). However, I adore vanilla and I didn’t want the nut butter to overwhelm the birthday cake flavour, so I left it out. Just like I’m a coffee purist, I’m also obsessed with authentic vanilla flavor. And you guys? These protein balls are SO freaking good.

Doesn’t Sweet Redemption look so pretty with the sprinkles? If you’re considering picking it up, first of all: thank you! Second of all, you can read some of the early reviews on Goodreads, most of which reference the heat factor between Trevor and Brooklyn. You can read the first chapter for free and if you subscribe to my newsletter, you’ll receive a bonus scene and exclusive Sweet Redemption playlist.

Now onto the recipe!

Birthday Cake Protein Balls

Post-workout Snacks

These birthday cake protein balls have no refined sugar. They’re no bake, vegan, gluten free and come together in minutes.

This recipe makes 12 protein balls.

Ingredients

Directions

  1. Put all ingredients in a large bowl and stir until dough forms. Depending on the consistency of your coconut flour, you may need to add more unsweetened almond milk
  2. Form the dough into 12 balls and, if you’re using sprinkles, dip one “side” in them (I know balls don’t have sides, but you get the idea). If you love sprinkles, you can roll the whole ball in them!
  3. Keep the protein balls refrigerated until you’re ready to eat them

That’s it! Now you have healthy birthday cake protein balls to satisfy your sweet cravings without the guilt.

Protein Bites Recipe

Today is Buster the boxer’s birthday! He can’t have any protein balls, but we’re spending the week at the lake (his favourite). Do you celebrate your pets’ birthdays?
